Snow Baby - Southlake, TX

As the snow started to fall, a baby decided to be born.  Actually, this was not a tearing down the road in the ice kind of thing...thank goodness!  We arrived before the roads got bad and mom was 6cm. She labored through the night and we had a sweet baby boy in time for breakfast.  I made it home without too much trouble either, not bad for a Texas ice storm baby!

I love what I do!  I am attending births, training and doulas and raising my own family.  In order to keep providing the highest care to my clients, I have hand selected a team of doulas to manage.  We are a group of professionasl that are exceptional doulas and I have even trained many of them as well as had them shadow me.  I will still be providing services to several couples a month, but now I can also recommend other doulas for the months were I am full and KNOW that those who sought my services are still getting wonderful care.  The website for this collective is: Great Expectations Birth  Check it out!  I will be blogging there as well.

Natural Birth - Southlake, TX

This couple was recommended to me by friends who had used me sometime last year.  (I always appreciate referrals!)  They were a fun couple planning their first natural delivery. They took a great birth class (Birth Boot Camp) and were well prepared for the challenge of natural birth.  Birth is never easy, but this couple seemed to be having a lot of fun together even as they worked through a pretty intense labor.  It was a pleasure to come alongside them and help them reach their goal as they welcomed their daughter in the all natural labor they had planned.

VBAC - Southlake, TX

Posted by Maria Pokluda on February 14, 2015 at 11:10 PM Comments comments (0)

I attend a lot of VBACs, I love them. Last week I attended a couple who hade an emergency c-section early in their third trimester.  Obviously with that delivery the best place for baby to go was to the NICU, but since then the couple hoped for a future delivery that invovled spending time bonding with their newborn immediatly, and taking their baby home from the hospital when they left.

They planned for a VBAC and when the time came it happened.  It wasn't easy, and it wasn't a short labor, but they did it!  A perfect littl girl born via VBAC who snuggled with mom and dad and they ALL went home togethr then next day.

Always love my repeat clients!  This mom had her first VBAC with me a few years ago and now having another baby she was planning to do it again.  Labor started in the middle of the night (doesn't it always) and by the time I arrived at her house she was in hard labor and doing great.  Since she had already had one vaginal birth, we did not stay home very long.  When we arrived at the hospital it was close to time to push.  She was hoping to get in the water during her labor or pushing, but someone else was in the birth tub...so a land birth it was.  After about 4 hours of active labor she had another nice VBAC and welcomed her third son.

VBAC - Dallas, TX

It seems to be a time for VBACs!  Today's couple had an induction that failed resulting in a cesarean delivery for their first baby.  After that they were told she would not be able to deliver vaginall in the future because her pelvis was too small.  Fast forward 2 years and with a more supportive OB,  I watched as she pushed out her second baby in about 5 pushes.  Not bad for a woman who was told she couldn't do it!  Not did she do it. she did it just as she planned...no pain meds.
